EDMONTON, AB, April 9, 2015/ Troy Media/ – After much anticipation, Apple confirmed today that the Apple Watch will be available for in-store preview and on-line pre-order beginning tomorrow.

Previews can be made at local Apple Stores in Canada, the U.S.. Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan and the UK, along with select galleries in Paris, Tokyo and London and authorized resellers in Japan and China. On-line ordering will be open to the public at 12:01 a.m. PDT with deliveries starting on April 24th.

With all the on-line buzz the Apple Watch has generated, it seems the stores will certainly have a busy Friday.

Apple Watch demand expected to be strong

“We are excited to welcome customers tomorrow and introduce them to Apple Watch, our most personal device yet. Based on the tremendous interest from people visiting our stores, as well as the number of customers who have gone to the Apple Online Store to mark their favourite Apple Watch ahead of availability, we expect that strong customer demand will exceed our supply at launch,” said Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail and Online Stores.

This will be the first time consumers are able to preview an Apple product in-store prior to its official release date.

Apple Specialists will be on-hand to give customers a personalized session where they can try on an Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport or Apple Watch Edition (this last model only where available). They will also be able to get a hands-on demo, explore the various features of the Apple Watch models and options to help them select the best size, finish and band. As demand is expected to be brisk, it’s probably a good idea to make an appointment, which can be done through Apple’s website.

And while you can test drive Apple’s most personalized device ever in-store, you won’t be able to order it over the counter.

“To provide the best experience and selection to as many customers as we can, we will be taking orders for Apple Watch exclusively online during the initial launch period,” says Ahrendts.

Apple Watch Edition in 18-karat gold

Apple has positioned its Apple Watch like no other watch in history. It introduces advanced interface technologies including the Digital Crown, a new and innovative way to scroll, zoom and navigate fluidly without obstructing the display. It will also port a high-resolution Retina display, which we’ve become familiar with on the MacBook and iMac product lines. The Apple Watch also introduces Force Touch that senses the difference between a tap and a press, providing a new way to quickly and easily access relevant controls. Finally, the also new Taptic Engine discreetly delivers a gentle nudge or a tap on your wrist whenever you receive a notification or message.

Apple Watch will require the user have an iPhone. It’s compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and must be running iOS 8.2 or later.

Pricing starts at $449 and all the way up

Apple Watch is available in three collections and two case sizes – 38mm and 42mm. Pricing for Apple Watch Sport will be starting at $449 and $519 (all prices in Canadian dollars); Apple Watch, from $699 to $1,459; and Apple Watch Edition, crafted from custom rose or yellow 18-karat gold alloys, with prices starting at a mere $13,000.

Shipments of the Apple Watch are slated to begin on April 24th, at which time they are also expected to be available in-store – again, of course, subject to availability. Also beginning on the 24th, Apple Watch will be available at boutiques in major cities including Colette in Paris, Dover Street Market in London and Tokyo, Maxfield in Los Angeles and The Corner in Berlin, and select Apple Authorized Resellers in China and Japan.
