CALGARY, Alta. Feb. 7, 2017/ Troy Media/ – More people than ever are using the internet to start their own businesses. All you need is a good web host (check out bestwebhosting.co.uk for some ideas), a CMS or e-commerce platform, and an internet connection. But what kind of business should you start? Keep reading for a few ideas.
Consulting: If you’ve got the relevant education and some experience, that’s all you need to get set up as a consultant. If you are a qualified nurse, you could consult with legal firms or insurance companies, for example.
Cleaning: All you really need to set up your own cleaning business is a few supplies. It wouldn’t hurt if you are a bit of a clean freak. After that, it’s just a case of marketing, which you can do yourself online.
Baking: If you have a love of baking, and can create detailed icing designs, a business baking celebration cakes awaits you. This is another business that you don’t really need any equipment to start. A kitchen, baking ingredients, some talent, and some digital marketing experience are all you need.
Catering: Caterers are in demand for everything from big weddings to small meetings. You will need some level of skill in the kitchen, and some fresh ideas. An egg sandwich isn’t going to be good enough.
Blogging: Blogging is a great hobby, but it can also make you a lot of money. Make a good, professional looking blog, build your followers and then start making money through advertising.
Writing: Writing is massively in demand. From adverts to blog posts and reviews, why not start a business selling your writing skills?
Computer Repair: If you have any knowledge of how to repair and maintain technology, this could be the career for you. You don’t need premises, just some equipment, and a selection of social media accounts to advertise on.
Dog Walking: Dog walking might not sound like much of a business, but some people make some serious money from it. Advertise online and with flyers. You could be walking 10 dogs a day in no time at all.
Virtual Assistant: Virtual assistants help people organize and maintain their online profiles, blogs, websites and businesses. They schedule posts to social media, reply to comments and arrange meetings.
Event Planning: Events need planning. This can be stressful, and people are willing to pay to avoid this stress. You don’t necessarily need qualifications. Why not practice doing events for your friends’ kids?
Tutoring: Anything you are very good at, you can tutor others in, from languages to musical instruments and everything in between. Somewhere, someone is bad at it, and needs your help.
Jewelry Making: Jewelry making is a great business idea. You can make gorgeous things at home, and then sell them on eBay and Etsy. If you make jewelry for yourself and your friends, and get a lot of compliments, this could be something to consider.
The key to success is finding something you are good at, and then figuring out how you can be different. What sets your business apart? What can you offer that others can’t, or what can you do better? Once you answer these questions, you are well on your way to success.
