6 Healthcare Roles You Can Pursue With A Master’s Degree

When most people think of healthcare, they think of doctors and nurses wearing scrubs… but this isn’t always the case. There are lots of career options in the healthcare industry, from therapy to public relations.

With an estimated growth rate of around 18% (according to research from the Bureau of Labor Statistics), the healthcare industry is stronger than ever – so now is the perfect time to pursue your healthcare career.

Here are six healthcare roles you can pursue with a Master’s Degree.

Public Health Analyst

You can also work as a public health analyst if you have a Boston College MHA Degree. A public health analyst normally oversees public health departments, helping them to resolve issues and receive funding. This role doesn’t always require experience in a hospital, but you will need to have experience with public health (and a relevant degree).

Physician’s Assistant

Any job with the word “assistant” in the title may not seem too impressive, but physician’s assistants are very qualified (and very well paid). They work with surgeons, physicians and nurses to help diagnose and treat patients, so the work is valuable and challenging. The average starting wage for a physician’s assistant is also around $108,000 a year, which is very impressive!

Occupational Therapist

Do you like the physiological side of healthcare? If so, you may enjoy working as an occupational therapist. Occupational therapists work with sick, injured and sometimes disabled patients, helping them to relearn daily tasks, including walking, standing up and getting dressed. This work doesn’t always take place in a hospital; sometimes you may work with a patient at their workplace or home to help them function in their own, personal environment. The work is very challenging and rewarding, so it is well suited to someone who truly wants to make a difference in the world.

Speech Therapist

You can work as a speech therapist if you have a relevant Master’s degree. This role involves testing, diagnosing and treating children and adults who have swallowing or communication disorders. You will need to be a great listener, as it is important to identify tiny problems that could be weakening the swallowing muscles when someone is talking.

Legal Nurse Consultant

If you love the healthcare industry but also have an interest in law, you may enjoy working as a legal nurse consultant. Legal nurse consultants have an average starting salary of around $49,000 a year, and they help lawyers with patient records when there is a malpractice case. This is a very important role, and the day to day work is interesting and varied.

Art Therapist

Finally you could consider working as an art therapist. Art therapists use art and expression to help diagnose and treat patients. They work with both children and adults who have social, medical, psychological or development issues, helping to provide them with a higher quality of life. The work is also fairly well paid, with an average starting salary of around $44,000 per year.
