SASKATOON, SK, Mar 21, 2015/ Troy Media/ – I’ve been testing out a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre Over-ear Studio Headphones for a while now and I have to say that not only do they look really cool but the sound quality is also superb.

The Studio headphones are wireless noise-cancelling with a 20-hour stated battery life. I’ve used them a lot since I started testing them out, and the battery life is pretty impressive. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I charged them. Four little LEDs on the headphones let you know how much charge is remaining

The sound quality is great and you can listen at very low volume and still hear your music very clearly, or you can crank it up until your eyes vibrate and hear every note. There’s no real drop off at low volume nor is there distortion when cranking it up. The adaptive noise cancellation (ANC) is supposed to automatically strike a balance between what you’re listening to and the outside world. There’s even a mode called ANC-only that lets you use them just for noise cancellation.

Dr Dre headphones as good as it gets

Frankly, these headphones are as good as I thought they might be. I’ve wanted to try a pair out for a long time because the fact that so many celebs use them isn’t lost on me: they can afford to buy whatever they like and if they choose these headphones there’s a lot more to it than just a name.

Dr Dre headphones are expensive, but you get what you pay for

You get the headphones, a 3.5mm audio cable, a cable with an in-line microphone and remote control for iOS devices, as well as a hard-shelled carrying case with your purchase.

The fit and finish of these headphones is extraordinary – which it should be for the C$329.95 price tag. They come in a variety of colours: black, white, red, blue, matte black, pink, titanium, champagne and metallic sky. The ear cups are very comfortable for long term wear, eve over my Dumbo ears.

Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Headphones weigh in at .26kg, 13 per cent lighter than the original Beats. The smooth headband is adjustable to fit just about any size of head, so the ear cups are able to fit snugly around your ears to keep music in and noise out.

The Beats headphones were originally designed by an expert in the music industry, Dr. Dre – Jimmy Lovine – and have long been used by some of the top folks in the music biz. They’re designed to offer quality performance regardless of what type of music you might want to listen to. From my tests they do.

I’ve said it a million times; I’m no audiophile but I know what I like. I can’t identify all the nuanced things an audiophile might, but highs, mids and particularly the bass are just the way I like them with these headphones. These headphones consistently impressed me with the quality of the fit and finish and sound. I listen to just about any type of music unless it goes to extremes, and the Beats Studio headphones offer great sound for everything.

The big ‘b’ on the side of the ear cups offers instant identification that the person wearing them has Dr. Dre Beats on – nothing understated about red headphones with a big ‘b’ on the side of them!

PROS: Great sound; great fit and finish; very comfortable; 20-hours of use on a charge; two cables, one with a built-in mic and controls for iOS devices.

CONS: Dr Dre headphones expensive, but you get what you pay for.

TO SUM IT UP: They’re comfortable, offer very good noise cancellation, great sound, look great and are obviously quality made. If you’re on the lookout for a really good pair of wireless noise cancelling headphones then you’d be hard pressed to find something nicer then these Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Headphones.
