Looking to donate to a charity? Here are 5 you may not have heard of …

If you are looking to donate to a charity but don’t necessarily want to donate to one of the more popular and larger charities that already receive millions of donations a year, here are five incredible charities that you may not have heard of and that you can be sure will use your money to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

The K9 Project

The K9 project is a beautiful and relatively unknown charity that aims to connect the magic of dogs with people of all ages that are going through a challenging time. Set up in 2008 by one dedicated dog lover, this charity works especially with children and young people who are being prevented from reaching their full potentials by the unique challenges in their life. Canine therapy is a well-known stress reliever that is being implemented by universities and workplaces all over the world, so this is a wonderful way to help bring a bit of magic into the life of someone who needs it.

The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation

The PCRF is a hard-working and dedicated charity that raises money specifically to fund research into treatments for childhood cancer. Since it began, the charity has raised over $40 million in donations for cancer research, which helps to develop new treatments and hopefully one day a cure for cancer. Every year millions of children die from various childhood cancers that can one day hopefully be treated, and to many this is one of the most tragic stories to hear, but by supporting charities such as the PCRF, you can help make a difference in the lives of thousands of kids.

No Lean Season

If you are looking to give your money to some of the neediest people in the world, the no lean season charity could be the perfect option for you. The name might seem confusing at first, but it actually refers to the ‘lean season’ that affects poor rural laborers living in impoverished areas in Bangladesh. Every year, farmers working in rural areas have to survive on little to no money during the lean season, when food is difficult to grow, drought is common, and famine kills hundreds. This charity gives money directly to the farmers and their families, to help them put food on the table and afford transport into the city to find temporary work.

Against Malaria Foundation

Half a million people die every year from malaria, a completely preventable disease which predominantly kills children and is a leading killer of pregnant women worldwide. If you would like to contribute directly to helping stop the spread of such a terrible disease, donating to the against malaria foundation will help them to send nets that prevent the spread of malaria directly to the areas mostly affected by the disease

Refugees Welcome

The global refugee crisis is getting worse and worse every day. Camps holding thousands of refugees pushed out of their homes by war and famine are becoming overcrowded and hostile. Many people like to talk about what should be done, but very few actually take action. Refugees welcome is a German charity that pays for and organizes places for refugees to stay in the spare rooms of generous hosts. By donating to them (or becoming a host yourself) you can directly help influence the lives of refugees that are currently stuck in camps.

Even if you don’t have that much to give, a small donation to these charities can make a big difference.
