Troy Media columnist Robert Gerst dead at 60

Troy Media columnist Robert Marc Gerst (Bob) died quietly on March 10, 2014 while vacationing in Florida with his beloved wife Barb. Bob was born in Montreal on March 1st, 1954 and was the only son of Marc and Barb Gerst. The family moved to Edmonton early in Bob’s life.

While Bob was completing his undergraduate degree in arts at the University of Alberta, he met Barb, and they were married in 1979. Bob leaves behind his mother and wife, both named Barb and their beloved son Marc.

Bob was the Partner in Charge of Operational Excellence at Converge Consulting Group (formerly the Gerst McLean Group), a company formed with Shelley McLean in 1992 over a handshake and a bottle of fine wine. Their friendship began 32 years ago when they met while working at a small consulting firm.

Bob had many passions which included finding and drinking great wines, cooking, sailing, riding his motorcycle and music, particularly the blues.

Bob was a compassionate man with a huge heart. He touched everyone he met, often by asking them great questions or by simply sharing his amazing insights. He was curious and eager to learn, excelling as a teacher and mentor. Bob was an inspiration to the many people who were touched by his kindness, gentle nature, and infectious laugh. He embraced life and welcomed a challenge, always with a smile.

Family, friends and colleagues are invited to gather for a celebration of Bob’s life on Thursday, April 9 from 4-7 pm at Grumans, 230 11th Avenue SE, Calgary. We will share his favourite wines, swap stories and remember with love, an amazing man.

We will miss his insights. To read Robert, click here.
