Tips for Keeping the Spark Alive During Your Pregnancy

Jun 25, 2021

During pregnancy, couples make happy memories that last a lifetime. However, pregnancy can also be a very stressful time full of surprises and unexpected challenges. In reality, pregnancy can be a strenuous time for a couple as they prepare for the major upcoming changes in their lives.

Keeping intimacy and the “spark” in a relationship alive during pregnancy can take some work. Relationships might feel like they take a back seat to other priorities during pregnancy. But, this doesn’t have to be the case. The good news is that there are many different things a couple can do during pregnancy to stay close and happy.

Pregnant

A Weekly Date Night

Sometimes, enjoying an evening away from home is just the thing you need to reset and recharge. Whether that means going out to dinner at your favorite restaurant, catching a movie, or taking a walk in the fresh air, it is healthy to get out and about with your partner. When on your date, you can take a break from the day-to-day and concentrate on each other.

Communicate Your Feelings to Each Other

One of the first signs of pregnancy is morning sickness. If you are the one going through this sickness, you might be exhausted, both physically and mentally. Being vocal about how you feel and what you need can help your partner better understand your needs. If you are feeling backaches, share it with your partner. If you are scared, let your partner know. Relationships can only grow when both people are in it together.

Having Peace of Mind

Couples starting or continuing to grow a family will benefit from being thoroughly informed about the genetic health of their developing baby. Noninvasive Prenatal Tests (NIPT) can provide this information with accuracy. Utilizing NIPT can help couples navigate through their pregnancy journey.

Don’t Be Afraid of Your Body

If you’re the partner carrying the baby, you will see your body quickly changing. It is easy to become insecure about the way you look. You may feel like you don’t recognize your body as it grows. The truth is, the way your body is changing is perfectly natural.“Pregnancy glow” is a real thing and it is the furthest thing from unattractive. If you are pregnant, it is healthy to have an active sex life, and this may actually relieve the anxiety you may be having. However, if you are not in the mood for sex, that is ok too. Just make sure to communicate whatever you are feeling with your partner.

Plan A Getaway

When the little one comes along, it may be harder to get far away from home for a while. If you’re able to, going on a trip or mini-vacation is a great way to keep the spark alive before birth. This doesn’t have to be a well-planned trip. Even a spontaneous weekend at a nice hotel can add some adventure for a couple expecting a baby.

Pregnancy is a journey that is different for everyone. It is exciting, scary, and awe-inspiring all at the same time. Take your pregnancy one step at a time and you and your partner will be prepared for anything that comes your way.
