After finishing second in the Eastern Conference of the MLS in 2020 and going straight to the final series, Toronto FC experienced a huge dip in fortunes. They finished well outside the playoff positions in 2021 and, from the look of things, they will also not be making it to the playoffs this season.

It is no wonder that Toronto decided to look to the transfer window this summer to get them back to old glory.

Toronto FC are usually a fantastic team for Canadians to bet on, being the only Canadian club to have ever won the MLS Cup. If you fancy them, you can still bet on them. To choose your bets, though, we’ll recommend that you bet online with LeoVegas promo code.

But while Toronto might be winning you some money, the question is; can they also win the MLS Cup with these new players they have signed?

The club has made 6 new signings this year. They got Richie Laryea on loan from Nottingham Forest, Doneil Henry for free from LAFC, Mark-Anthony Kaye for about a million dollars from Colorado, then the three Italians; Lorenzo Insigne, Federico Bernardeschi, and Domenico Criscito, all for free from Napoli, Juventus, and Genoa respectively.

Now, all these signings were defensive reinforcements apart from Kaye who is a midfielder and Insigne and Bernardeschi who play up front.

So far, the Italian forwards have had the biggest impact since arriving in the summer.

Insigne has scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists in 9 appearances while Bernardeschi has scored 7 times and assisted twice also in 9 appearances.

That’s 17 direct goal contributions between the pair in just 9 games. They really hit the ground running. And with those contributions, they have been able to get Toronto back to winning ways.

Toronto fell to fellow Canadian team, CF Montreal on the 5th of September, but before that, they lost only 1 out of 8 MLS games, which is a huge improvement from 5 losses in the 8 games before that.

With this sort of impact from the new signings, it may not be so crazy to say that Toronto FC will soon start winning trophies again. So, can Toronto’s new signings win them the MLS Cup? Definitely.

At this rate, they surely can, but just not this season.

Before these guys arrived, Toronto had already sunk so deep that it became pretty much impossible to get them a playoff spot no matter how good their form gets. They are currently 10th on the table, 3 spots away from playoff qualification, and it looks like they won’t get much better than that this season with only a handful of games to go.

However, next season, you can rest assured that Toronto will be one of the favorites to top the Eastern Conference and perhaps go ahead to win the MLS Cup. It’s about time anyway. Next year will make it 6 years since they won the MLS Cup, so they will be looking to bring the trophy back to Canada for only the second time ever.
