Sixteen-year-old skier Charlie Beatty, a rising senior at Eastview Secondary School in Barrie, is spending his summer hard at work in preparation for the 2026 Winter Olympics. He’s training on ski hills in New Zealand and Austria to maintain the elite skillset he displayed in January when he won a gold medal at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea.

Unlike many Olympic athletes who receive public funding, Charlie’s training and equipment expenses are covered by private sponsors. Companies such as Rip Curl, Anson Funds, Corbett’s Ski and Snowboard, and Oakley provide the means for this young Canadian skiing prodigy to train at his full capacity, aiming to bring pride to the entire nation during the XXV Olympic Winter Games in Milan.

Charlie Beatty’s skiing journey began at the age of two, and he began “park skiing” at five. Beatty immediately displayed an effortless talent and passion for the sport. Since then, it’s his commitment and his work ethic that has set him apart.

Charlie’s dedication to training paid off when he was selected as a member of Team Canada and had the distinct honour of being the country’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony in South Korea. It was an incredible privilege for him and cemented his status as a leading Canadian athlete. That status was further secured when he won Team Canada’s first gold medal at the Games in the men’s freestyle big air event. His 60-foot winning jump awed the crowds and was a perfect demonstration of his exceptional skill and determination.

The achievement was a moment of national pride, and back home at the Horseshoe Resort in Barrie, where Charlie grew up skiing, a large crowd of family and fans alike gathered together to cheer him on from afar. As an unfunded athlete, Charlie must continue to rely on the generous support of community sponsors.

This support system allows Beatty to train at his full capacity, maintain his dedication to the sport, and solidify his position as a rising star in the world of freestyle skiing. Charlie hopes to inspire the next generation of athletes while winning medals Canada on the international stage.

The 2026 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 6th, 2026 and will run for a little over two weeks. The events will be spread across Northern Italy, and Charlie will be competing in the renowned resort of Livigno, which sits nestled high in the Italian Alps, close to the Swiss border. With the support of his family, community and his sponsors, Charlie is a promising contender for Team Canada. We wish him the best of luck in his journey and we hope that he has a gold medal on his chest when the games come to their conclusion at the Closing Ceremony on February 22nd.
