With online casinos dominating the gambling market in the post-pandemic world, one question that everyone seems to be asking is: Do online operators take responsible gambling seriously? Well, the massive influx of players in the online gambling market during the pandemic pushed the online casino operators to take responsible gambling more seriously than they used to.
What is Responsible Gambling?
Responsible Gambling is a set of social responsibility measures that have been rolled out for the gambling industry. Federal and state governments, legislators, gaming control boards, casino operators (both online and land-based), and vendors have created some provisions to make sure all gambling operations are carried out with fairness and integrity and to spread awareness regarding the harms and dangers associated with gambling like gambling addiction, underage gambling, fraudulent and criminal behaviour etc. Most of the initiatives of responsible gambling come from casino operators and other stakeholders.
Responsible Gambling in Online Casinos
When it comes to responsible gambling in the online gambling industry, player protection is the most important duty of online casino operators, specifically after the pandemic. However, according to a latest survey of the iGaming industry by Gaming Intelligence, only 20% of online casino operators keep it on the top of their priority list. Apart from this, 70% of the online gambling operators said that responsible gambling is taken into account in all the decisions they make. About three-quarters of the online operators surveyed expressed their confidence in their company’s responsible gambling strategy. And nearly half of the respondents said that every business decision they take conforms with all the provisions of responsible gambling.
The survey also showed that 30% of online operators were using daily or weekly analytics. 20% of the operators surveyed said that they used predictive analytics. The number of operators handling all the gambling operators manually was impressively large, making approximately 27% of the total respondents.
There has been a considerable increase in the attention given to responsible gambling in the online gambling industry. This uptick goes back to the onset of the pandemic. Moreover, technology has played an important role in ensuring responsible gambling in online casinos. Different kinds of technologies and rules employed in online gambling like half-used rule-based triggers had made online casinos fairer. Online operators use these triggers within the wagering operations software i.e., the software is pre-programmed to generate an alert when a certain criterion is met for example, number of bets in a specific time frame, a set amount of money lost in a specific time frame, a set amount of money won in a specific time frame, or any other activity that is indicative of fraudulent behaviour. With this kind of technology to protect you, you can enjoy Casumo’s superior live casino experience.
Though most of the operators in the online gambling industry are taking responsible gambling measures, there are sites that don’t have a proper responsible gambling strategy. In the above-mentioned survey, nearly 9% of the respondents admitted that they don’t have a proper responsible gambling strategy in place. On top of that, 17% of the respondents were not even sure if they had one. However, it must be noted that not all respondents were the CEOs of the company. Some respondents were just account managers.
The bottom line is that online casinos cannot evade their moral and ethical duty to ensure that a solid responsible gambling strategy is in place. In 2021, the technological development in the online gambling industry has come to an extent that manual monitoring to conduct responsible gambling is no longer needed. There is a vast variety of software present that can execute and ensure all responsible gambling measures like identity verification, age monitoring and more.
